Founder president:

Late Dr. Mihir Ganguly (Born 14-04-1926) was the founder President from 2001-2006.He started this association along with 7 members only. He was a Dermatologist (Skin Specialist). He worked with Mother Teresa. He was in the international team of research in Leprosy. It is his vision for this association which grew from a seed to a big tree. It was his dream to see that this association flourish as it is now. He passed away on 25-06-2009 in London.

The Association is having his constitution and SOP. Activities and functions are guided by constitution and SOP.

History

The history of the Senior Citizen Association, Mango garden, CBD, Belapur is woven around the vision of founder President Dr. Mihir Ganguly (2001 - 2006). Dr.Ganguly through his profession could realize that the Senior Citizens of CBD, Belapur are an unorganized sector.

Having only seven members initially it started working on 21st January 2001 under the guidance of Dr. Mihir Ganguly from his residence in Gautam complex, Sector – 11, CBD – BELAPUR.

Then a shop at 35, Mermaid 1, Sector-11, CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai was taken on rent for Association office but later on that also shifted to a shop in Gautam complex , Sector 11,CBD Belapur.

Finally, the office was shifted to Mango Garden at sector-1A, CBD allotted by NMMC on 01-02- 2009.

Later on Virungla Kendra was constructed by NMMC & allotted to the Association in 2010.

It has now grown to 600+ strong Life Members coming from CBD-Belapur, Vashi, Nerul, Kharghar, Panvel, Uran, Koperkhairane, Airoli & Thane and having a wide spectrum of professional backgrounds such as advocates, businessmen, doctors, engineers, finance and banks personnel, defence personnel, government and public company retirees and persons from many other fields.

The Association has been registered with the Charity Commissioner, Thane with Reg no. MAH/574 2002/THANE ON 24-05-2002.

Since it is a Public Trust and Charitable Organization, all the donations given to it for the welfare of the senior citizens are exempted under section 80G of Income Tax Act 1961.

Single handed started by Dr Mihir Ganguli, the organization in Mermaid building, sector-11 in a small room. Within a short time many stalwarts of the organization like Late Lifetime Chairman Lt. Coln (Retd) D.P. Singh(2009-2023), Previous President Late Mr. P.M. Maggu, Previous V.Ps Late Mr. G.S. Mullick, Late Mr. S. K .Chatterjee, Late Mr. S.S. Mukherjee, Mr. Q.H. Khan. Gen. Secretary. Mr. S.S. Gandhi joined the team and Subsequently Mr. M. M. Sharma, Mr. Satish Rathor, Dr. S. R.Sachan. Many prominent members Mr. R K Modi, Late Mrs. Madhuri Kaviswar, Mrs. Sashi Rastogi, Mrs. Guddi Ahluwalia, Adv. N. C. Doshi, Mr. A. K. Sharma, Mr. Jaswant Singh, Mr. Darshan Singh, Mr. S. K. Haldar have taken active role to make the Association reaching this height. Now it is one of the best Senior Citizen Association in Navi Mumbai having 600+ members.

Activities

Primary Activities:

⦁ On the 1st Saturday of every Month Governing Council (Managing Committee) Meeting is held to discuss and take decisions for proper functioning of the Association.
⦁ On 2nd Sunday of every Month Monthly Meeting is held to apprise the members of activities & decisions taken by the Governing Council.
⦁ Members whose Birthday & Marriage Anniversary fall in that Month are invited to attend the Monthly Meeting to celebrate their Birthday & Marriage Anniversary by welcoming them with flowers, cutting cakes.
⦁ Account: Quarterly account statement is placed before the Governing Council to control the expenditure, update and make it transparent. Annual Balance Sheet is prepared, Audited & I T return filed by a Chartered Accountant. Copy of I T return filed is forwarded to Charity Commissioner, Thane as per act.
⦁ Election: As per the Constitution of “ The Association For Senior Citizens”, Election for Executive Body Members are held every three years. Election is conducted in free and fair atmosphere under the supervision of Charity commissioner, Thane.
⦁ Honoring Members Members attaining age of 75 years are honoured by the Association every year.

Other Events and Activities

⦁ Health related camps: Hearing Aid camps, Blood Test Camp, Praynam & Yoga Camp, Cancer Detection Camp, EYE CHECKUP CAMP. Dental, Bone density check up camp.

⦁ Picnics: Picnics are also arranged regularly to nearby picnic spots and places.

⦁ Seminars, Lecture & Workshop: Seminar, Lectures and Workshops are ofenly arranged on subjects related to senior citizens’ Health, Finance and social problem etc

⦁ Raksha Bandhan, Satyanarayana Puja, Baisakhi, Chhabil, Haldi Kumkum , Diwali, New Year Day, Independence Day, Republic Day, Easter Day etc are celebrated every year.
⦁ Participation in activities organised by NMMC (Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation) on Senior Citizens Day every year
⦁ Participation in FESCOM activities.
